By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The six Wellington girls state placers are named the Big Cheese Athletes of the Week – the final such award of the 2024-25 scholastic year.

The six girls helped give Wellington 46.5 points, good enough for fifth place in Class 4A at the Kansas State Track and Field Championships in Wichita last weekend.

Those girls include:

•Dru Zeka, who is Wellington’s first tri-track state champion in a single year, in the long jump, high jump and 400 meters.

•Claire Ginter, who placed fourth in the pole vault.

•Ella Goodrum who placed seventh in the discus.

•Vivienne Wright, who placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, and fifth in the high jump.

•The 4×100 meter relay team that consisted of Presley Metcalf, Addy Wilson, Ginter, and Zeka.

For their efforts, each girl receives a large delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington.
