Blansett defense attorney Mike Brown withdraws gag order motion in court today
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — A gag order that was filed by defense attorney Mike Brown last week in the first degree murder case of Lindsey Nichole Blansett has been withdrawn during a court hearing this afternoon.
Brown had filed for a gag order to prevent attorneys and those working closely with the investigation from speaking to the media and public at large about the case concerning a 33-year-old woman, who is charged with the murder of her 10-year-old son.
Before anyone could settle into their seats in the Sumner County courthouse, Brown immediately withdrew the motion from consideration without explanation. Sumner County Judge Scott McQuin accepted the motion.
Blansett was not present for the gag order hearing.Â
She is currently in the process of a mental competency evaluation through Sumner Mental Health Center to determine whether she is fit to stand trial and understand the nature of the proceedings. The hearing review is expected to occur at the courthouse on Jan. 29 at 1:30 p.m. McQuin granted Brown’s request at a scheduling hearing held Jan. 8.
Blansett is accused of using a rock and a knife and striking her son, a Wellington Lincoln Elementary student, multiple times resulting in his death on Dec. 14, 2014.
