Board discusses pest control issues at the school district, status of basketball player
Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington school board held a special meeting on Feb. 27, concerning the pest control issue at the Wellington Middle and High School. This was the account written by Russ Sturm, USD 353 communication specialist.

The board discussed the recent insect issues at Wellington Middle and High Schools. The district provided the board with a timeline for the extermination processes that have taken place at the middle school. Kelly Adams also explained new cleaning procedures that will take place at the middle school kitchen to help prevent future problems. Holly Parkey was on hand to review the issue at the high school. All problems at the high school have been resolved and they continue to monitor the situation.
The board then went into executive session for student matters for 15 minutes with high school principal John Nance. The motion carried 7-0.
No action was taken.
Pat Zeka motions, seconded by Chris Buckman, to go into another executive session for 10 minutes and to include Superintendent Adam Hatfield and the student’s family to discuss student matters at 6:34 p.m. Regular meeting to resume at 6:44 p.m. Motion carried 7-0.
Regular meeting resumes at 6:44 p.m. No action was taken.
Pat Zeka motions, seconded by Chris Buckman, to go into an executive session for five minutes and to include Superintendent Adam Hatfield and Principal John Nance to discuss student matters at 6:46 p.m. Regular meeting to resume at 6:51 p.m. Motion carried 7-0.
Regular meeting resumes at 6:51 p.m. No action was taken.
Chris Buckman motioned to reinstate a student to a Wellington basketball team. Pat Zeka seconded. Motion failed 4-3.
Non-Elected Personnel
The board waived this Executive Session as there was nothing to discuss pertaining to non-elected personnel.
