Bob F. Holdaway, 88, of Wellington died Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., January 2, 2017, at the Free Will Baptist Church in Wellington. Arrangements are with Shelley Family Funeral Home of Wellington. Bob Franklin Holdaway was born May 24, 1928, the son of Luke and Hettie (Brown) Holdaway in Wellington, Kansas. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1946 and joined the United States Navy serving his country from 1946 until 1948. On June 13, 1948 Bob was united in marriage to Joy Rains.
Bob worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 14 years in Wellington and Kaiser Steel Railroad in California for 27 years. He also worked at Walmart as a greeter. Bob was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Bob started the Babe Ruth Baseball team in 1948. He coached baseball in Wellington and California for 50 years. He loved to read to children.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Joy of the home; son, Jerry Holdaway of Wellington, 12 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons: Chris Holdaway and Marty Holdaway, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
