Bone remains in Sumner County could be related to a Jan. 1 double homicide in Sedgwick County
Sumner Newscow report — Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter said the two bodies recently discovered in rural Sumner County may be connected to a double homicide case in Sedgwick County that occurred on January 1.
The Sheriff’s office has been conducting a homicide investigation at the 9500 block of Hydraulic at the southern edge of Sedgwick County since New Years Day. Last week, bodies were discovered at 300 North River Road, south of Belle Plaine and north of Oxford.
Easter said this is still only speculation, but there may be a connection to those remains and that Jan. 1 homicide. He said, however, that it is not certain until DNA results come back. He estimates that could take two to six weeks.
“We believe the double homicide occurred on January 1 in the evening hours,” Easter told Wichita media. “From that particular case, or the evidence on the scene, we felt that there were two people that had been murdered there.”
Easter said it could take two to six weeks to verify his suspicion that the cases are related, but with a possible murder suspect may still be on the loose. He hopes the DNA results come back sooner rather than later.
