Brock Edwards finishes 1-2 in extremely competitive singles field in Class 4A state tournament
Sumner Newscow report —  Wellington High School tennis player Brock Edwards finished 1-2 in the Class 4A Tennis Tournament in Topeka.
Edwards opened the tournament Friday with a first round victory over Kyle Hutley of Parsons 6-4, 7-5.
That pitted him against three-time defending state champion Tommy Hunter of Topeka Hayden and was soundly beaten 6-0, 6-0.
That sent him to the consolation bracket where he lost to Auggie Lange of Baldwin 9-5 and was eliminated. Â
Hunter went on to win the championship to become only the fourth person in Kansas history to win the state title four consecutive years. Â
“Class 4A had about eight remarkably talented singles players this year and Brock would have had to win his match against Lange and another match against Renton Williams from Andover Central in order to have the chance to compete for a top 12 finish who all received medals,” said Wellington head boys tennis coach Allen Keller.Â
