Bryce Day Memorial Foundation to hold golf fundraiser on June 10

Submitted to Sumner Newscow — The Bryce Day Memorial Foundation will hold a golf fundraiser tournament on Saturday, June 10 at the Wellington Golf Club. It was created in 2015 to uniquely impact the lives of those who need it most. The nonprofit organization seeks to assist families in need of funeral service assistance.
The foundation was founded by 1972 Wellington High School graduate Bryce A. Day, who owned Day Funeral Home. Bryce died on July 21, 2017, from pancreatic cancer. In creating the foundation, Bryce stated:
“The foundation was created with one simple goal: to make a meaningful difference in the community that I care so deeply about. I didn’t want to repeat what others were doing, so I set out to do what no other foundation was doing. The contributions should have a unique impact and to do that I decided to pursue my longtime passion of assisting those families facing the immediate loss of a loved one. At one point the State of Kansas provided a benefit of $550 to those qualifying as ‘in need’ however, drastic cuts to the State’s budget meant there have been no funds available since 2010.”

The foundation stands with Cornejo Funeral Home and Frank Funeral Home in providing a dignified service. The mission is to offer a financial contribution to the funeral home of every qualified family. We are guided by the conviction that such support is not a matter of generosity but our responsibility as a community.
The Board of Directors includes Mindy Tencleve, Betty Zeka, Steve Atchley, Jenifer Howard, Wes LeFlore, Kristi Horsch, Pat Zeka, and Lindsey Daugherty. The Foundation Consultant is Tytus Cornejo.
The foundation relies on donations and fundraising efforts to keep Bryce’s dreams and legacy alive. Donations can be made online or mailed to the foundation, PO Box 102, Wellington, KS 67152. A 4-Man Scramble Golf Tournament on June 10 is an upcoming fundraiser at Wellington Golf Club. Entry is $75/per golfer. Sponsorships are available – $100 Hole Sponsor or $50 Green Sponsor.
