Caldwell Historical Society to present “An Enchanted Christmas Evening with Elvis” Dec. 15

Submitted to Sumner Newscow — Come join the Caldwell Historical Society for a very special evening 7 p.m.  December 15, 2013 at the Opera House, Main and Central, downtown Caldwell.

The Caldwell Historical Society will present, “An Enchanted Christmas Evening With Elvis” starring Caldwell’s own celebrity Marshall Matthews.  Matthews is an International Elvis Entertainer and will perform Elvis Christmas Music. Matthews performs his Elvis Tribute Show coast to coast in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and can be seen on “You Tube” with his 12 piece concert band Marshall Matthews and The Memphis Kings.

He has won several entertainment industry awards including Five Star Performer and Gold Standard award.  Joining with Marshall in this performance will be the New Era Brass Quartet.

The New Era Brass Quartet is conducted by lead trumpet Roger Lewis, who also conducts and plays lead trumpet for Marshall Matthews and The Memphis Kings.  That band has 12 musicians, and backs Matthews in larger concerts for his Elvis Show.

Lewis, one of the more prominent professional musicians in the Midwest has a long career playing with orchestras behind Mel Torme, Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, Johnny Mathis, Vic Damone, Ella Fitzgerald and many others.

He was an original member of the Flippers, and The Red Dogs rock bands, and is in four different Music Halls of Fame.  He recently retired as Director of Instrumental Music at Butler Community College.

Other members of the quartet are Kevin Pickrell, Angela Addis and Denny Brunk, who have all attained excellent status as professional musicians and have similar backgrounds as Lewis.  Brunk recently returned to Kansas after 20 years in Los Angeles where he was in constant demand as a trombonist for many famous performers and studios.

Marshall Matthews and the Memphis Kings recently performed for a large audience at First Council Casino at Newkirk, Oklahoma.

This evening is being planned as a fundraiser for the Caldwell Historical Society with proceeds going to the repair of the roof of the Border Queen Museum and the Opera House.

Also on the agenda for the evening will be a pie auction to be held during intermission.
