Caldwell Middle Schooler Tuesday Partee comes in tied for 4th at KPA Sunflower Spelling Bee

Tuesday Partee after winning the Sumner County Spelling Bee in February. 

Sumner Newscow report — Caldwell Middle Schooler Tuesday Partee finished tied for fourth in the Kansas Press Association Spelling Bee held at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina on March 22. She represented Sumner County.

Partee reached Round 5 before getting eliminated. She was one of 14 contestants to get eliminated in this round. Only 10 other spellers would make it past this round. Samuel Riley from Andover won the 2025 Spelling Bee. He won with the word “conlumbarium” which means a structure of vaults lined with recesses for cinerary urns.

The competition involved 91 spellers from all across Kansas. The competition lasted 10 rounds.

Partee won the Sumner County event on Feb. 26, besting 31 other spellers. She won with the word “tenable,” meaning “capable of being held, maintained, or defended.”

She bested 64 other spellers at the state bee.

Riley will advance to the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee this summer near Washington D.C. on May 28 -29. The semifinals and finals will be televised on ION.
