Centenarian Marie Eleanor Partridge Brasher, 101, Winfield: January 28, 1921 – August 7, 2022
Marie Eleanor Partridge Brasher was born on January 28, 1921, to Arthur W. Magdalene (Lena Salzman) Partridge at Gray, Okla. in Beaver County, Okla.
She attended Blue Mound School through the 8th grade and then attended Perryton High School graduating in 1940.
She enjoyed riding her horse Bell, spending time with her best friend Opal Sager, and gardening – she loved to grow things. She also loved spending time with her brothers, sister, cousins, and other family and friends, playing games, and participating in outdoor activities.
She married Austin Brasher in Newton in 1947 and Austin, adopted Jimmie Brasher, Eleanor’s firstborn. This was followed by another son and two daughters. They moved to Hugoton in 1960 where she and her husband ran the Jet Drive-In until Eleanor went to work for Broaddus Chevrolet in 1965 and worked there until she and the two girls moved to the OK/KS state line. The two boys were grown and in the service by this time.
She bowled in a league and was a very good bowler going to state tournament competitions. She and her teammates went to the motel and Eleanor sat on a cot in the room and it folded up on her. Her teammates were laughing so hard that they couldn’t help her out for a while. They all had a good time and so much fun.
She was also very busy being a good Mom to her four children, planting and tending a garden, harvesting the crops, canning, baking and making jams, jellies and preserves.
After moving to the OK/KS state line she worked at Rose Pontiac Chevrolet until she retired in the early 90s. She continued to have a garden, both vegetables and flowers. She enjoyed attending the class reunions for Blue Mound, Bethany, Anthony; Balko a combined reunion, and continued to go to these until she was about 96 years old. She decorated the graves of loved ones all over Beaver County for years with her daughter Susan, then I began to go with them beginning in 1999. It was a great way to hear family stories and learn about our heritage. She wasn’t an avid church goer, but she was a God-fearing woman, reading her Bible daily and demonstrating this through the way she lived. She was kind, gave good advice and was forgiving. She is one of the strongest and most courageous women I have the pleasure to call my aunt… Auntie Sis.
