Petra Negrete

Petra Cansino Negrete, 102, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in Olathe, Kans. surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., Friday, January 6 at the Shelley Family Funeral Home – 803 Loomis St. Winfield, KS 67156. Rosary will follow visitation at 7 p.m., Friday, January 6 at Holy Name Catholic Church. Contributions in memory of Petra may be made out to Holy Name Catholic Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Petra Cansino Negrete was born on August 1, 1914 in Aguascalientes, Mexico to loving parents Isabel and Juana Cansino. Petra attended school in Oxford, Kansas. She was united in marriage with the love of her life, Ysidro S. Negrete Sr. on February 6, 1929 in Dalton, Kans.

They were happily married for many years. Petra loved to travel and takes rides in the car, she especially loved going to the casino. She enjoyed being a homemaker, but most of all she loved her family.

Survivors include: Children: Connie Jaramillo of Wellington, Kansas;  Mary Cornejo of Winfield, Kansas; Jessie Cornejo of Topeka, Kansas; Rosie (Vincent) Macias of Wellington, Kansas; Y. Pete (Lucia) Negrete of Olathe, Kansas; Jenny (Tony) Ramirez of Winfield, Kansas; and Felicia Aikins of Winfield, Kansas. As well as 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and many extended family members.

Petra is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ysidro on November 1, 1966; children: Espiridion, Pedro, Tommy, Lloyd, and Julia; brother John Casino and sister Bonifcia Hernandez.
