Charles Walter Cole, better known as Chuck to all who knew him, passed away with family by his side on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the age of 72.

Chuck was born the son of Lawrence and Maxine (LeForce) Cole on September 26, 1953, in Wellington.

Chuck spent his life embodying the heartland spirit. He was charismatic, his quick wit and infectious humor drawing many to him. His teasing was legendary, often marking the beginning of lifelong friendships. Chuck was a loving family man who devoted his life to his loved ones, never missing an event, no matter how big or small. His faith was significant, shaping his compassionate and supportive demeanor.

Chuck’s life was deeply rooted in the soil of Wellington, where he spent his days as a farmer. His dedication to his land was a testament to his enduring love for his hometown. His connection to the outdoors extended beyond his work, with coyote hunting and fishing being among his favorite pastimes. He had an adventurous spirit, which often led him to the mountains of Colorado. His love for cars was evident in his frequent visits to car shows. He was also known for his constant presence at cattle auctions. No matter the time, he was known to answer every phone call, ready to lend an ear or offer help. In his younger days, he was a staple in the local pick-up basketball games that took place throughout the town.

Chuck leaves behind an incredible legacy, survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Carley Cole; daughters, Ashley (Mack) Colwell and Haley Cole; grandchildren: Britney Lee, Rahlee Colwell, Natalie Colwell, Casey Colwell, Wade Colwell; sisters, Jill DeJarnett and Jane Cole; nieces: Jami (Kevin) Dodds, Jenny (Lanny) Gridley, Robin Davis, Jennifer (Jason) Newman, and Misty Lintecum.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lawrence and Maxine Cole; daughter, Holly Cole; and grandson, Lucas Cole.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2026 with the family present to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services for Chuck will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Wellington Church of Christ, Wellington. Interment will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington.

Memorial contributions can be given in his name to the Wellington Church of Christ Missionary Fund, 217 West 13th Street, Wellington 67152. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
