City of Wellington announces tentative July 5 opening… pool will be open only on weekends

Sumner Newscow report — The following information has been compiled by City and Wellington Recreation Commission staff regarding the opening date and operation of the Aquatic Center this summer…

———

Due to the delay in finalizing the pool repairs and the tight schedule for the contractor, the original completion date of May 8 is no longer achievable. The contractor has indicated June 16 as a realistic date for filling and operating the pool. Once we take possession of the facility, we will be able to complete cleaning, set up, and training over the following two weeks. We currently plan to open to the public on July 5.

Since anticipated staffing levels will not allow for operation seven days a week, we will focus on weekend openings.  The Aquatic Center will be open on July 5 and 6, and then every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through August 3.  We will evaluate attendance and staffing to determine if we can extend the season beyond that point.

Daily admission prices will remain at $3 for children and $5 for adults. Coupon books will be available, offering 10 passes for $20. Please note that season passes will not be available this year.

To ensure the availability of swimming lessons, a decision on swimming lessons will be made closer to the project’s completion.

Private parties may be booked for Saturdays from 7:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. through the Wellington Recreation Commission at (620) 326-3323.
