Conway Springs gets back rolling, knocks off Trinity Catholic 43-8
by James Jordan, Sumner Newscow — Collin Koester had a big night for Conway Springs, scoring four touchdowns on long runs before halftime as the Cardinals rolled past Trinity Catholic 43-8.
In the first quarter, Koester scored on runs of 54 and 31 yards. in the second quarter, he scored on runs of 41 and 76 yards. Before the half ended he threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Wright, and Conway Springs led 36-0 at the half.
Heath Hilger scored on an 11-yard run in the third quarter and Conway Springs led 43-0. In the final stanza Trinity Catholic scored on a four-yard run by Evan Remar, and with a two-point conversion, made the score 43-8.
Koester had 241 yards on 11 carries, for a whopping 21.9 yards per carry average. ack Ebenkap has 40 yards on four carries. Koester was also 2-2 passing for 56 yards.
Conway Springs ran only 32 offensive plays and amassed 398 yards. The Cardinals had 342 yards rushing on 30 attempts for an 11.4 yards per carry average.
Trinity Catholic had 154 yards rushing and 161 total yards. Conway Springs also made three fourth-down conversions.
Conway Springs is now 3-1 and plays at Wichita Independent next week. Independent is winless and has scored only twice in four games. They were beaten by Belle Plain 66-0 two weeks ago. Trinity Central is now 2-2.
