Sumner Newscow report — The Class 3A State Powerlifting meet was held in Conway Springs Saturday. There were 220 participants in boys 12 weight divisions and 89 participants in the girls 10 weight divisions.

As a team, the Conway Springs girls won the Class 3A State Championship with 54 points, beating second place Halstead with 40.

The Conway Springs boys scored 68 points finishing second in the state. Cherryvale won the event with 80. Belle Plaine had 4.

Individual state champions from Conway Springs include: 

•Amanda Drouhard, who won the 114-pound division. She squatted 205, bench pressed 105, and power cleaned 130 for a 440 point total. The second-place competitor scored a 415.

•Kadee Hilger, at 126, scored 515 with a 235 squat, a 145 bench press and a 135 power clean. The next placer had a 480 score.

•Mary Bernsten in the powerweight had a squat of 285, a bench of 110, and a power clean of 135 for a 530 total. The next placer had a 480 score.

•Wyatt Curry of Conway Springs won the 148-pound state championship with a squat of 320, bench press of 280 and power clean of 210 for a 810 total – beating a West Franklin student who scored a 790.

•At 156, Conway Springs boys went 1 and 2. Colton Terhune finished with 880 for first place. He had a 370 in the squat, 250 in the bench and 260 in the power clean. Jed Chitwood had a cumulative 800. He squatted 315, bench pressed 215, and power cleaned 207 for an 800 total.
