Country music concert to be held at Wellington Regent Theater tomorrow
By Amber Countryman, Sumner Newscow — A country music concert, featuring six up-and-coming artists, will be held at the Regent Theater on Feb. 10, presented by Highway 82 Records of Oklahoma.
Artists featured will be Tyler Byrd, Savanna Chestnut, Gus Burns, Kyle Killgore, Autumn Ragland, and Wellington’s own Makayla Brownlee.
Tyler Byrd is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter from Noble, Okla., who has a very fast-growing fan base. Over the years, he’s found himself home performing Red Dirt music. Before his music career, Byrd made it to round 6 of American Idol 19. He has shared the stage with Curtis Grimes, Ragland, The Damn Quails, and many more. He signed with Highway 82 Records in August 2021. Byrd’s debut album was released in February 2021.
Savanna Chestnut was raised in Kansas, and the singer/songwriter’s music reflects her roots. She started writing and performing at age 13, and currently tours around the country playing venues, festivals, fairs and events. She has opened for Gary Allan, Eli Young Band, Tanya Tucker, Ned Ledoux, Sunny Sweeney, Ward Davis, Granger Smith, Restless Heart, Shenandoah and more. She earned a spot on Blake Shelton’s team when she was a contestant on season 20 of The Voice. Her song “Prairie Fire” made it to the top 60s on the Texas Regional Radio Charts in 2020. She has also been nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year at the Rocky Mountain Country Music Awards.
When a group of guys got together and started playing, Gus and the Saddle Tramps were born. The group figured they’d share their music with the world while doing what they love, and not just playing in someone’s living room or carport. They play a mix of old and new covers and have a few original tunes.
Kyle Killgore band is a fast-growing musical group in the Texas/Red Dirt country music scene. They have played over 500 shows in the Midwest. The band, who is based out of Wichita, has been on the rise since the release of their debut album “Jackson” in 2018. They have performed and worked with members of Randy Rogers Band, the Turnpike Troubadours, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Granger Smith, Ragland, Eric Paslay, Parmalee and Aaron Watson.
Autumn Ragland and her husband Sam Cox make up the band Ragland, which was formed in 2015 in Pryor, Okla. The band started touring, then released their debut album “Just So You Know.” They’ve since played 1,000 shows all over the United States.
Ragland has performed, toured and worked with Mike McClure, Vandoliers, Mike and the Moonpies, Flatland Calvary, Eli Young Band, Sunny Sweeney, Kody West, Ricochet, Chancey Williams, Trace Adkins, The Damn Quails, Joe Nichols, Micky and the Motorcars, Brandon Jenkins and the members of Wilco, Reckless Kelly and Turnpike Troubadours. Ragland was nominated for “Group of the Year” at the T3R Music Awards in 2019. The band was placed in the “Top Ten Albums” of that year by Country Music France and Country (People) Magazine (U.K.). Ragland looks forward to continuing to tour and will be releasing a new album in spring of this year.
Makayla Brownlee is a 19-year-old Wellington native singer/songwriter who comes from a musical family. Her style leans toward modern country music, but some of her original songs cross over to rock and pop. In 2020, she was one of the top 40 in season 18 of American Idol. She was featured on four televised episodes, including a performance during the final round of Hollywood Week. Her signature and trademark voice was recognized and admired by Lionel Richie, an American Idol judge.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. There will be a $10 admission charge
