(Updated) Sumner Newscow report — The Kansas Wheat Festival Medallion has been found!

Crissy Ann Denniston of Wellington found the Medallion at 7 a.m. The Medallion was in an air freshener cartridge, under the sink, in the restroom, at Candy Cane City.

For her winnings, Denniston has won $1,000 with a registered button. She will be awarded the check on Wednesday at the Picnic in the Park event at 6 p.m.

Denniston said she had been close since Wednesday but was thrown off by it being in the bathroom.

“I was out here in the rain and mud last week, knowing it had to be out here,” Denniston said. “In fact, this morning, I was up at 3:30 a.m. When you released the clue this morning, that tipped me off.”

This isn’t the first Medallion win in her family. Her wife, Jennine McCulley, found it in 2019.

“She won it on day 4, so I was hoping to beat her record,” Denniston said. “I was hoping to outsmart her.”

Denniston said she would use the $1,000 to help give her young daughter a birthday gift.
