by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — This week’s Big Cheese Athlete of the Week is Deitrek Gill, a Wellington High School junior for the boys’ golf team.
The Wellington golf team opened its promising season with two tournament victories last week. On April 5, Wellington traveled to Crestview Country Club where Gill won the tournament individually by shooting a 71 — one under par at the course in Andover.
Then on his home course in Wellington the following Thursday, Gill would shoot a 72, two-over-par as the No. 1 individual. He helped Wellington win its second tournament against 11 other schools.
For his effort, Gill receives a large delicious Big Cheese Pizza at 324 N. Washington.
