Delma Wood, 95, Wellington: Dec. 12, 1929 – Feb. 25, 2025

Delma Wood

On Feb 25, 2025, Delma Wood, of Wellington, KS, died at the age of 95. Delma was born on Dec 12, 1929, in Asheville, NC, to John Dewey and Nancy (Gregory) Williams. Delma moved from North Carolina to Kansas to raise her family, which meant everything to her. Delma was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a hardworking woman who took care of her family and worked outside of the home.

Delma’s most enjoyable jobs involved being around other people. She was one of the original “Lunch Ladies” for USD 353. She then worked at Wal-Mart for several years as the shoe department manager. She later became a school crossing guard. Delma loved seeing the children each day and became a familiar figure at the corner of 8th and F Street. Delma was a beautiful woman inside and out. She always had a smile and a ready wit. Her family and friends will deeply miss Delma.

Survivors include her daughters: Julia (Roger) Stallbaumer; Betty Wimberly; Mary (Mark) Green; grandchildren: Steve (Kim) Simpson; Stacy (Mike) Wiley; Mandy (Brandon) Schrag; Sydney (Joe) Hirst; Amy Wood; Cari (Dustin) Martin; Tim Wood; Emily Wood; Nakia Elkins; Tory Elkins; Callie (Daniel) Delain; Kelsey Green; Chase Biles; Brooke Biles; Mitchell (Abigail) Green; 33 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; brothers, Doyle Williams and Frank (Debbie) Williams of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nancy Williams; husband, Everett E. Wood Jr.; son Everett E. Wood lll (Sonny); daughters, Nita Elkins and Iris Manche; son-in-laws, Kent Simpson and Jim Duroy; granddaughter, Rachel Daley; great-grandson, Matthew Simpson; siblings: Dewey Williams Jr.; Bruce White; John White, Jim White; Delois Costner; Dorothy Ruff; Darey Williams; and Mae White.

A visitation will be held at the Cornejo Funeral Home & Crematory at 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, 67152, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2025. A private interment will take place at a later time.

Memorial contributions can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in her name and loving memory. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
