Donna Renn, 92, Wellington: Jan. 6, 1924 – Dec. 2, 2016
Donna Miller Renn died on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington, at the age of 92.
Donna was born the daughter of Luther and Ethel Hoffman Miller on Sunday, January 6, 1924 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. She attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse in Hunnewell, and later graduated from Wichita East high School in 1942. Donna attended Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas and graduated in 1946 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. She then worked for two years as a flight attendant for Braniff Airlines.
On June 30, 1948, Donna and Robert James Renn were united in marriage in Wellington. Together they celebrated 39 years of marriage before his passing in 1988. At a young age Donna commenced a lifetime appreciation and enjoyment for sports as she watched numerous semi-pro baseball games in the late 1930s at Lawrence Stadium. She continued watching sports throughout her life and never missed any of the hundreds of baseball, football and basketball games of her family.
Donna was a member of the Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years and was one of the founders of the Presbyterian Preschool. She was also a member of P.E.O. for more than 50 years. Later in life, she tremendously enjoyed the more than 25 years that she was a member of Culture Club.
She was a supportive and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by her family and many wonderful friends.
Survivors include daughter, Cristin R. Chapin (Chris) of Lawrence, Kansas; son, Chad M. Renn (Pam) of Wellington, Kansas; son, Greg Renn (Marsha) of Wellington; grandchildren: Cooper Chapin (Cari) of Lenexa, Colby Jaques (Hayden) of Chicago, Illinois, Ben Renn (Allison) of Wichita, Zach Renn of Chicago, Illinois, Austin Renn (Katy) of Wellington, and Ashley Zeka (Taylor) of Mulvane, Kansas; 9 great-grandchildren and her nephew, C.L. Foster of Port Aransas, Texas. Â
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Velma Foster of Kingsville, Texas.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2016.
Funeral services for Donna will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, Wellington. Reverend Debra Schmidt will officiate.
Interment will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her loving memory to the First Presbyterian Church, Wellington, Kansas. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
