Doroteo Zavala

Doroteo “Gabby” Zavala Jr., of Wellington. died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Wellington Health and Rehabilitation at the age of 85.

Gabby was born the son of Doroteo, Sr. and Julia (Ramirez) Zavala on Saturday, February 21, 1931 in Wellington, Kansas.

On November 19, 1966, Doroteo and Elisa Corona were united in marriage in Wellington, Kansas. Together they celebrated 49 years of marriage.

Gabby retired from the City of Wellington where he served as Sanitation Foreman for over 17 years. 

Survivors include his wife Elisa Zavala of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Socorro “Coco” Anguiano (Ramon) of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Maria Lujan (Nicasio, Sr.) of Wellington, Kansas; grandchildren: Sofie Lawless (Greg) of Derby, Kansas, Angelica Lujan of Wichita, Kansas, Teresa Branine (Josh) of Andover, Kansas, Jessica Williams (Aaron) of Andover, Kansas, Celia Lujan Sanchez of Wichita, Kansas, Elisa Lujan Gonzalez (Roberto) of Wichita, Kansas, Nicasio Lujan, Jr. of Wichita, Kansas, Raymond Anguiano (Megan) of Wellington, Kansas and Miguel Lujan of Wellington, Kansas; seventeen great-grandchildren and his brother, Elias Zavala of Wichita, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Joe, Eucebio, Willie and Pete Zavala and sisters: Esther Leffel, Vera Venegas and Mary Vierya.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2016.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Vigil Service will begin at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at St. Anthony/St. Rose Catholic Church, Wellington, Kansas.

Funeral Mass for Doroteo will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2016 at St. Anthony/St. Rose Catholic Church, Wellington, Kansas. 

A memorial fund has been established in his loving memory to the Rivercross Hospice. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
