Dr. Joe Baker involved in plane crash near Dodge City
Sumner Newscow report — Dr. Joseph Baker, a physician for the former Wellington Family Practice Clinic, has been hospitalized after a plane accident near Dodge City.
Sumner Regional Medical Center Director Leonard Hernandez reports that Baker has broken ribs and a collapsed lung and was staying at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
“He said thankfully and luckily, he will be fine,” Hernandez said.
Baker has been a longtime general practitioner in Wellington and reportedly plans to open a clinic at SRMC soon.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that all three people onboard a small plane crashed in the Dodge City area and suffered minor injuries. KHP says it received a call from Ford County Communications shortly after 9 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Hays Post website.
The three-seater plane from Wellington had gone down in the area of Lariat Road and 114 Road. Three people were on the plane – two men and one woman. The other two passengers were not from Wellington. The plane was headed to Dodge City for business.
KHP says though the injuries were minor, one person had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The cause of the plane crash has not been determined, but KHP says the pilot indicated he lost airspeed and clipped a couple tree branches before going down.
The FAA is headed to Dodge City from Wichita.
All roads around the crash were closed temporarily but were re-opened.
