(Updated) Easter services, egg hunts and activities around Wellington
by Amber Countryman, Sumner Newscow — There are many Easter church services, Easter egg hunts and activities planned in Wellington this year, with something for everyone.
Easter Services
On Easter Sunday, join a non-denominational community sunrise service and breakfast at the Raymond Frye Complex, 320 N. Jefferson, sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance. Following this service, each church will host individual services and activities at 6:30 a.m.
First Presbyterian Church, 1419 Western Avenue, on Easter Sunday, the church will host an Easter breakfast at 9 a.m., followed by worship at 10:30 a.m.
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1031 Mission Rd., will be hosting an Easter service and breakfast at 7 a.m. Sunday, followed by a children’s egg hunt.
Calvary Lutheran Church, 1300 North C Street, Easter brunch/Easter Egg Hunt, 9:15 a.m. Worship Service with Holy Communion, 10:30 a.m.
Church Ignited is having a Good Friday service at 7 p.m., then on Easter Sunday, they will host a 9:30 a.m. breakfast, followed by their Easter service at 11 a.m.
First United Methodist Church chapel will be open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., the hours that Jesus hung on the cross. On Easter Sunday, the church will hold its regular worship service times at 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Free Will Baptist Church will host a special Sunrise Service at 6 a.m. on Easter morning at the church, followed by normal morning services, Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. There will be no afternoon or evening worship on Easter Sunday.
St. Anthony Catholic Church Easter vigil at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Regular Easter Services will be on 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Good Friday at 7.
Hillside Baptist Church will have Easter Sunday services at 10:30 a.m., an Easter musical, “Your Grace Still Amazes Me” will be performed.
Easter Activities and Egg Hunts
Sumner Community Hospital, 1323 N. A St., will host an egg hunt on Friday, April 19, from 3-4 p.m. There will be an egg hunt, face painting, egg races, cookies, and more! Don’t forget to bring a basket for the egg hunt.
Free Will Baptist Church will host an egg hunt on Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m., for 5th grade and under, with free popcorn for those in attendance. There will be 12,000 eggs hidden on the church lawn.
The Wellington Recreation Center will be hosting a Bunny Hunt & Breakfast on Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m. at Melody Bowl, with an after hunt breakfast held at the Armory, with the Easter Bunny as the guest of honor. Ages 4 and under are free, but they must be registered. For ages 5-9 years old, the cost is $5 per person, or $4 per person if three or more in the same family. On-site and walk-in registration is $10 per person. Bring your own cameras to snap pictures of your little ones and the guest of honor, the Easter Bunny.
Kimball Insurance Agency and Friends will be hosting their annual egg hunt on Saturday, April 20, at noon at Hargis Creek. Candy and eggs will be scattered all over the grass areas for various age groups. Pose with the Easter Bunny, Fire Pup, and Tank the Cowley Tiger.
Orscheln Farm & Home will be hosting an egg hunt on Saturday, April 20 at 9 a.m. at their store for specific age groups. See store for details.
