Edgington pleads not guilty to second degree murder of his wife
Sumner Newscow report — Michael Edgington, 24, 0f Wellington, has pled not guilty to murder in the second degree (reckless), a level 2 felony at his arraignment hearing held this afternoon.
Therefore, a jury trial has been tentatively set for Nov. 16 at the Sumner County Courthouse. That does not necessarily mean that will be when the trial takes place. There is a strong possibility it could be delayed. s
“It is very early in the process; we have not even received the autopsy report yet,” said defense attorney Jess Hoeme, who is defending Edgington.
Edgington is accused of shooting his 25-year-old wife, Sydney Palmer, on July 3 at 1316 North A Street in Wellington. According to the criminal complaint, he allegedly killed Palmer during an argument after brandishing and firing a gun at the victim, who threw a small concrete figurine at him (see story here).
Sumner County District Judge William Mott determined there is enough evidence for trial after a one-hour preliminary hearing held at the courthouse Monday morning.
