Emerson H. Allen, of Wellington, died Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield at the age of 91.

Emerson was born the son of Orville and Ruth (Spry) Allen on Friday, May 30, 1924 in Byron, Okla..

On February 27, 1943, Emerson and Betty Lee Ray were united in marriage in Cherokee, Okla.. Together they celebrated 46 years of marriage before her death in 1989.

As a young man, Emerson served his country in the US Army during World War II. He had a long career in several industries. Emerson was a farmer, oil man and equipment operator for the family business, Allen Trenching. 

Survivors include his sons, Bobby Allen (Vicki) of Mt. Hope and Doug Allen (Janet) of Milan; daughter-in-law, Jana Allen of Wellington; sister, Olive Hudgens of Hutchinson; brothers, Delmar Allen of Byron, Okla. and Kelly Allen (Carol) of Longmont, Colorado, eleven grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; sons, Donnie Allen and Steve Allen; brothers, Gaylord and James Allen.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2016. 

Funeral services for Emerson will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in the chapel of Cornejo|Day Funeral Home & Crematory, Wellington. 

Interment will follow at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington.

A memorial fund has been established in his loving memory to the Kansas Veterans Home, Winfield. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
