Fatality accident on Kansas Turnpike result of Iowa man pulling on southbound lane going north
Sumner Newscow report — A fatality four-vehicle accident Sunday evening, north of the Kansas Turnpike Belle Plaine Service Area, left an Oklahoma woman dead just before 6 p.m.
The accident left both lanes of traffic closed for around 3 hours.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol report released this morning, Kap Cung, a 45-year-old male from Clive, Iowa, was driving a 2024 Toyota Crown sedan when he pulled out of the service area going northbound into the southbound lane.
The Toyota struck a 2013 Ford Explorer, driven by 36-year-old Colby Choate of Marshall, Okla., causing the vehicle to roll. Choate was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cung was taken to Wesley Hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries.
The Ford Explorer was also hit by a 2025 Western Star semi and a 2022 Honda Civic following the vehicle. There were no injuries involving those vehicles.
