Field survey for proposed U.S. 81 bridge replacement project begins Jan. 30
Sumner Newscow report — A field survey for a proposed U.S. 81 bridge replacement just south of Wellington is expected to begin around Jan. 30.
The proposed project would be over Slate Creek, 1.5 miles south of the south junction of U.S. 81/U.S. 160.
The approximate length of the survey is 3,000 feet, and the survey will be based on the existing alignment.
The survey will gather information needed for the detailed design of the proposed improvement. The survey is estimated to be completed by April 15.
A survey crew member will first contact property owners and/or tenants for permission to enter private property. Survey activities will include using survey instruments on the ground to determine locations of existing features in the survey corridor.
Bill Fox, P.S., Project Manager, Garber Surveying, will be in charge of this survey for the Kansas Department of Transportation.
