Fire causes $18,000 damage to home at 405 S. Hoover, cat survives
Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington Fire Department responded to a fire at 405 S. Hoover in Wellington today at 3:39 p.m.
According to the Wellington Fire Department, William and Melissa Aukland are the owner/occupant of the home.
The WFD responded to a reported upstairs bedroom on fire. Upon arrival, light smoke was showing from the home’s second story. All occupants were out of the home, according to the press release.
Firefighters stretched a hose line to the upstairs bedroom and quickly extinguished the fire. A search of the home found no occupants unaccounted for, but one cat was found in the bedroom. It was given oxygen.
The estimated damage to the home is $18,000. A portion of the ceiling was removed in the bedroom to ensure no fire spread to the roof area. There was extensive smoke and heat damage to the upstairs of the home.
Electrical malfunction is being blamed for the cause of the fire. There was 10 Wellington fire personnel responding to the fire, including one engine, one ambulance, one tender, and two pickups. First District 9, Oxford, and Mayfield provided mutual aid. Other agencies assisted were: Sumner County Sheriff, Wellington Electric and Sumner County Emergency Management.
