Fire in Caldwell leaves one person dead, two seriously injured early this morning

Sumner Newscow report — According to Caldwell Fire Chief Pat York, one person is dead and two others are hurt because of an overnight house fire in Caldwell that started during the morning hours.

The fire allegedly broke out early around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning at 19 West 2nd Street in Caldwell. KWCH.com is saying the coroner has identified the victim as Dennis Lile. Two others have been hospitalized to be treated for burns. David Hollis is said to be in critical condition, his son Michael in fair condition, according to the KWCH website.

Neighbors say Michael, who is also a distant relative to them, ran to their house around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The house was fully engulfed in flames, York said.

According to the Sumner County Emergency Management office all three people at the residence were male.

According to the website KAKE.com a neighbor said a person who lived at the home came over screaming for help around 2 a.m.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating in the effort.

York said the Caldwell Police Department is also investigating the incident.

The house was a single floor family home dwelling.
