Fire on 212 W. Lincoln in Wellington creates $75,000 in damages to home

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — There were no injuries to a house fire at 212 W. Lincoln yesterday at 8 p.m. in Wellington.

The fire, caused by an electrical short to the air conditioner, destroyed an estimated $75,000 in content and structural damage, according to a Wellington Fire Department press release.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a three-story structure with heavy smoke conditions toward the rear of the structure and visible fire on the exterior.

Crews first addressed the visible fire on the house’s exterior and then entered the structure to determine if there was still anyone inside the residence and if the fire had spread to the interior.
There were smoke conditions inside the home, and there was some fire extension into the kitchen area of the home.

Two occupants of the house were there at the time. According to the WFD, the owner is James Hebert and the occupant listed was Jason Campeau. The occupants were assessed by staff for breathing difficulty. A water line melted due to the fire and caused water damage to the rear of the house. Crews were on the scene for 1 1/2 hours.

Mutual aid was provided by Mayfield, Fire District 9 (Belle Plaine), and Oxford. there were 22 personnel on the scene with five pickups, three engines, one ladder, and two ambulances.
