George “Bud” McConnell died on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at his home in rural South Haven at the age of 83.

Bud was born the son of Frank and Velma (Heuszel) McConnell on Wednesday, January 11, 1933 in South Haven.

On November 11, 2011, Bud and Virginia Lee Anderson were united in marriage in Winfield. Together they celebrated nearly 5 years of marriage.

Bud was taught to operate a dozer by his father and grandfather at a young age. He spent the rest of his life in the Soil Conservation industry and retired following a career of over 70 years. 

Survivors include his wife, Virginia McConnell of South Haven; brother, Jim McConnell (Sherrilyn) of Columbus; daughter, Karen McConnell of Aspen, Colorado; son, Ron McConnell of Braman, Oklahoma; son Mike McConnell (Sharon) of South Haven; daughter, Becky McConnell of Rifle, Colorado; step-son, Bryan Dennett (Debbie) of Winfield; step-daughter, LeeAnne Burress (Jeb) of Augusta, grandchildren: Ryan Bohannon (Erin) , Megan Sprague (Dusty), Matt McConnell (Katie), Kay McConnell, Erin McConnell, Kaitlin Dvorak (Nate), Breanna Stroman (Seth), James McConnell, step-grandchildren: Zachary, Matthew, Savannah and Cameron Dennett and Justin Burress; 8 great-grandchildren; former wife, Phyllis McConnell of South Haven and a cousin, Delbert Heuszel of South Haven. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl McConnell; daughter-in-law, Linda McConnell and step-granddaughter, Devin Burress. 

The family of Bud will be holding a memorial service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Community Church of South Haven (formerly known as First United Methodist Church). Bud and Virginia enjoyed dancing together on Thursday nights.

At his request, all are invited to come and celebrate his life and enjoy a dance at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Wellington Health and Rehab, Wellington.

A private interment will be held at a later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery, South Haven. 

Memorials have been established in his name and loving memory to the Queen School Project (non-profit to restore the school Bud attended) or to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
