George Charles Liebegott Jr., 87, Wellington: May 12, 1938 – Jan. 3, 2026
George Charles Liebegott Jr. has passed on to be with his loving and wonderful wife, Karen Sue, in their new adventures together in the afterlife. George was the son of George and Loretta (Sawicki) Liebegott, born on May 12, 1938, in Freeport, Long Island, New York. George graduated from high school after participating in football, track, wrestling, and having two of his cars in hot rod magazines on the East Coast.
George and Karen were united in marriage in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Jan. 21, 1976. George joined the Air Force in February 1962 and was trained on Century Series aircraft, which included the T-33, F-86, T-39, F-100, F-102, F-106, F-105, and the F-15. His last reenlistment was performed at General Patton’s grave at the American Cemetery in Luxembourg. In 2018, George donated a CD about his military and Vietnam history project to the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. After retiring in 1982 after 20 years, 7 months and 14 days, he and Karen settled in Belle Plaine, KS. His kindness and love of children led him to enjoy being Santa for Belle Plaine for many years. George always enjoyed letting people know he was a character, and making people laugh.
Survivors include his children: Tracy (Bill) Braun; Jeff Liebegott; Jason Liebegott; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Loretta Liebegott; and wife, Karen Sue Liebegott.
A viewing will take place on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 3 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cornejo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1030 Mission Rd., Wellington, Kansas 67152.
Memorial services with military honors to celebrate George’s life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.
