Gregg Own Nugen, 69, Park City: Sept. 13, 1956 – March 20, 2026
Gregg Owen Nugen, 69, of Park City, died Friday morning, March 20, 2026, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was the fourth child born of Albert (Junior) and Peggy (Williams) Nugen on September 13, 1956, in Wellington.
On July 19, 1975, he and Sammie Horsch were united in marriage at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wellington. They celebrated 50 years of marriage.
In May of 1976, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Katie. Jeremy Bowen joined the family when they married in 2003. Gregg was most proud to be called “Grandpa” by his three grandchildren, Reid, Nate, and Bree. During 2020, he even reluctantly came to love his grand-dog, Bear.
Gregg was employed with the Santa Fe Railroad in 1977. In 1979, he suffered severe injuries from a motorcycle accident, which left him paralyzed. Obstacles never stood in Gregg’s way. There was never anything he could not accomplish once he set his mind to it: woodworking, building a deck, painting a house, cutting firewood, fixing lawnmowers and chainsaws, working on intricate jewelry, restoring Old Blue, even getting a pick-up truck out of a culvert. Gregg faced all his challenges head-on! He was “handicapable”!
In November 2025, Gregg celebrated 25 years of sobriety, a feat in itself!
At the end, peacefully, Gregg’s heart succumbed to the stress his body had endured.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.
Gregg was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Johnny Blake.
Survivors include his wife, Sammie Nugen; daughter, Katie Bowen and her husband Jeremy; three grandchildren, Reid, Nate and Bree; sister, Sheryl Blake; brothers, Ron Nugen and his wife Connie, and Kent Nugen and his wife Terri; his grand-dog and grand-cat; numerous brother-in-laws and sister in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.
