Harold Edwin Booher, 94, Arkansas City: April 27, 1924 – April 28, 2018

Harold Edwin Booher, 94, of Arkansas City, died on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at William Newton Hospital of Winfield.

Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 3 at Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.   Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, northwest of Winfield.  The family will greet friends and viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established with the USS Massachusetts Battleship, 5 Water Street, Fall River, MA 02721.  Contributions can be left with the funeral home.  

Harold Edwin was born on April 27, 1924, in Hoosier, Kans.. He was the oldest son of Clarence and Myrtle (Johnson) Booher.   After completing high school, Harold joined the United States Navy during World War II.  He served his country and was aboard the USS Massachusetts before being honorably discharged.

After the war, he was united in marriage to Betty Conner in 1946 in Winfield.  The couple made their home and raised their children in Arkansas City.  He worked as a welder/assembler with Smith & Moon Steel Co. of Strother Field for 42 years.   Betty preceded him in death in 1989.   In 2006, he was united in marriage to Shirley Bullock and the couple made their home in Arkansas City.

Harold enjoyed having his team of horses, Smokey and Candy.   He also enjoyed farming and Senior Citizen’s dances.   He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He attended the Dexter Christian Church.

His family includes is wife, Shirley of Arkansas City; his daughters: Nancy Stultz and husband Norman of Dunn, North Carolina, Marsha Booher of Wichita, KS and Sherri Means of Newkirk, OK; his son: David Booher and wife Shirley of Arkansas City; his 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.   In addition to his wife, Betty, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Claude, Delbert and Donald Booher and a son, Harold Booher, Jr.
