Helen McDonald, formerly of Wellington, 100: February 12, 1917 – June 21, 2017

Centenarian Helen M. McDonald, formerly of Wellington, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Winfield Rest Haven in Winfield at the age of 100.

Helen was born the daughter of James Bert and Emily Ella (Page) Harrison on Monday, February 12, 1917 in Wellington.

On January 11, 1947, Helen and Everette McDonald were united in marriage in Wellington. Together they celebrated 34 years of marriage before his death in 1981. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Wellington for many years. 

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Sandstrum and her husband Phil of Rock; granddaughter, Penny Lister and her husband Kelly of Winfield, step-grandchildren: Jimmy McDonald and his wife Lois, Sharon Cocker and her husband Oma, Phyllis Hall and her husband Chip, great-grandchildren: Matt Nelson, Shawn Nelson and his wife Linda, Jacob Nelson and his fiance Bethany Bolton, Courtney Goode and her husband Cody and four great-great-grandchildren along with an extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ella Harrison; step-son, Dean McDonald; son-in-law, Herbert Cooper; grandson, Brian Cooper, three brothers: Jim Harrison, Walter Harrison and Arthur “Pete” Harrison and three sisters: Jean Shelley, Bonnie Capps and Alice Meece.

Graveside services for Helen will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2017 at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington. Pastor Sallie Shore will officiate. 

Memorial funds have been established in her loving memory to the American Cancer Society or the Arthritis Foundation. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
