Ida Mary Rose Belmear, 84, Caldwell: March 4, 1932 – March 12, 2016
Ida Mary Rose (Wedman) Belmear, daughter of Cleo and Ida (Metzinger) Wedman, was born in Caldwellbon March 4, 1932. After a brief illness and hospital stay she was able to return to assisted living at Serenity House in Wellington, where she died peacefully on March 12, 2016.
Ida Mary was the fourth of nine children and grew up on the family farm northeast of Renfrow, Oklahoma. She attended Fairview Country School, east of Renfrow and went on to graduate from Caldwell High School in Caldwell in 1950. After graduation she attended Cosmetology School in Wichita, Kansas, graduated, and returned to Caldwell where she began her career working in a local beauty shop as a beautician.
After starting her career, she married Johnny A. (Jack) Belmear on November 24, 1952, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Medford, Okla. They remembered this day was marked by an unusual blizzard which hit the area and closed roads for days. To this union three children were born: Yvonne, Elaine, and Bruce. The family moved from a farm east of Renfrow to Caldwell in 1957. Ida Mary continued her work as a beautician and opened up her own beauty salon in their home at 513 North Market St. where she became close friends with many of her customers. In addition to working full time in her beauty shop, she was busy raising her family with Jack, and helping him with their farming business. Jack and Ida Mary built a home on his family homestead in 1980 west of Renfrow and for a time Ida Mary retired from the salon to devote herself fully to their farming and cattle business. In the late 1980’s she opened a salon on South Main and for several years continued her beautician work until retiring permanently. Although retired from her beautician work but never one to slow down, she built her own chicken coop and raised chickens, studied and acquired her Oklahoma Residential Life Insurance license, had a never-ending battle with her machete and sunflowers, mowed yards, ditches, and waterways. Her grandchildren were the special light in her life and she spent many hours attending their special events, teaching them to drive, and giving them the love only grandparents can.
Ida Mary is survived by her sister Cecelia, brother John, and her three children: Yvonne Torralva and husband Carlos, of Dallas, TX, Elaine Belmear of Farmers Branch, TX, and Bruce Belmear and wife Cindy, of Renfrow, OK. She has three grandchildren: Cassie Mock and husband Philip Mock, of Bixby, OK, Tyler Belmear and wife Alisha, of Caldwell, KS, and Josh Hunt and wife Kim, of Peoria, IL. She has three great-grandchildren: Lola (Josh), Audrey (Cassie), Azelie (Josh), and a fourth arrival in May (Tyler). She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, brothers Paul, Henry, Anthony, Ralph, and two infant sisters.
Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016 and Mass 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016 both at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Caldwell, Kansas.
