In October, Wellington Rotary Club members planted some tulip bulbs; we are loving it this Easter

by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — There is no doubt when it comes to beauty, the roundabout at the junction of U.S. 160 and 81 in east Wellington, is something to be desired.

But the Wellington Rotary Club decided to do something about it. On Oct. 30, 2020, the local service organization embarked on a project to beautify the roundabout. It decided to plant 2,000 tulip bulbs in the center of Wellington’s busiest intersection.

Well, fast forward to April 1, 2021 and we are now reaping the benefits of that effort.

The tulips, which started blooming more than a week ago, are now in full bloom just in time for Easter weekend. Look for the red, pink, yellow and white to be with us for at least two more weeks provided the Kansas weather leaves them alone.

And in mid-May when the tulips will go back to being dormant, the need for further landscaping at the roundabout will become even more apparent.
