It was a rather ‘quiet’ Fourth of July in Sumner County as far as fireworks incidents were concerned
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — While elsewhere there were reports of gruesome fireworks accidents including one person who was killed after putting a lit mortar on his head, Sumner County was “quiet” as far as incidence were concerned.
Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath said the WPD received 19 complaints over the four-day Fourth of July holiday with neighbors complaining about the fireworks.
“Nothing out of the ordinary,†Heath said.
Wellington Fire Chief Tim Hay reported much of the same. He said the WFD received two phone calls concerning fires caused by fireworks but they were put out before the fire department could get there. No structural damage was reported.
Sumner County Sheriff Darren Chambers said he received no fireworks incidents at his office.
