Cabrera is accused of stealing two vehicles that were parked on A Street between the 600 and 900 block, south of the roundabout in Wellington. He also allegedly broke into two other vehicles and stole property.

Cabrera was arrested Friday afternoon at the 900 block of North B Street when a WPD investigator while canvassing the area, discovered that Cabrera was driving one of the vehicles that was reported to be missing.

He was apprehended at 4 p.m. Cabrera also faces charges on a City of Wellington bench warrant for failing to appear in court.

Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath said that the WPD received a report of two stolen vehicles which were parked on the street which had keys in the ignition at the time of the crime. The suspect also broke into two other vehicles and stole a laptop computer out of one, and personal belongings out of the other. None of the vehicles were locked, Heath said.

There has been a rash of vehicle burglaries over the past two weekends in Wellington, Heath said. Five cars have been stolen, not counting a go cart and an ATV.

So far Cabrera is the only suspect currently in question with the stolen vehicles on Friday. Heath did not rule out that there were others involved. The alleged crimes are currently under investigation.

“Wellington homeowners need to make it a lot tougher on the criminal, and not leave their keys in the ignition,” Heath said.
