Jim Yates chosen to replace Sarah Lawrance on Wellington school board
Sumner Newscow report – The Wellington school board named Jim Yates to replace Sarah Lawrence, who resigned from the board last month.
The board voted last night at its regularly scheduled July meeting on Monday evening. The board passed the resolution by a 5-1 vote, with Pat Zeka voting against the appointment. Deanna Garver, a former board member, was first nominated, but the motion failed 3-3 not making a majority of the seven-member board.
Yates will fulfill Lawrence’s term, which ends at the end of 2027, which is a little more than 2 1/2 years. The board also voted to go ahead with a bond election schedule for next November.
Dean Kern was originally chosen for the board, but turned it down because he wanted to continue to substitute teach. Originally, six had applied. Four showed up for the interviews last week, conducted by the school board.
