Jimmie Lee Ybarra, formerly of Wellington, died on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield at the age of 74.

He was born the son of Lucy (Arebalo) and Pedro Ybarra on January 31, 1947, in Wellington. He graduated from Wellington High School and shortly after was drafted into the United States Army. Jimmie honorably served during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts. Following his military service, Jimmie began his career in the railroad industry. He retired from BNSF Railroad following a 33-year career as a conductor. 

Survivors include his daughter, Courtney Stuart and husband Todd of Wichita; son, Adam Ybarra and wife Krista of Wichita; son, Elliott Ybarra and wife Erin of Wichita; son, Patrick Ybarra of Wichita, his grandchildren: Tyler Stuart, Reese, Brecken, Hollis and Sutton Ybarra; sister, Mary Stearns and husband Brent of Wellington and a brother, Michael Cottle of Bakersfield, California.

He was preceded in death by her father, Pedro Ybarra, and mother, Lucy (Arebalo) Cottle. 

There will be a visitation with the family receiving friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, September 4, 2021. 

Private interment with military honors will take place at a later date in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Winfield.

A memorial has been established in his name and loving memory with the Avenue of Flags. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
