Kanokla shares update for fiber connectivity project in Wellington

By Jill Kuehny, Chief Executive Officer of Kanokla —  Kanokla, a trusted leader in rural broadband services, is pleased to provide an update on its `ongoing fiber connectivity project in Wellington. With a rich history dating back to 1951, Kanokla has been dedicated to enhancing connections in rural communities for over 70 years. Kanokla has served the Wellington community since 2008, expanding its fixed-wireless internet offerings. Kanokla began fiber construction in Wellington in 2021 and now serves close to 500 customers with fiber internet and an array of tech solutions. It currently employs 9 Wellington locals.

Project Phases and Progress: Kanokla understands the importance of dependable broadband services in today’s digital age. As part of its commitment to Wellington, Kanokla embarked on its fiber project to expand broadband services in 2021.

  • Phase 1 and Phase 2 Completion: We have successfully completed Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the fiber project, extending our network to numerous homes and businesses in Wellington. Phase 1 covered a majority of Wellington’s business and school districts. Phase 2 completed the west half of Wellington, west of Vandenburgh Ave. Customers in these areas who signed up during construction for service or a “fiber drop” to their home which enabled them to have the final fiber connection to their property are not required to sign a service agreement to switch to Kanokla.
  • Expansion Possibilities: We are evaluating a next phase of our fiber project. Our priority remains financial feasibility, ensuring that we make responsible decisions for our company while communicating updates with the community. Kanokla did not receive any federal or state grants to expand its network in Wellington. Many things have changed in the broadband landscape since initial planning began in 2020. One of the very positive changes for Wellington residents is there are now more high-speed internet providers than ever before.

Customer Commitment and Support: Kanokla is deeply grateful for the trust and support  customers have shown throughout this project.

If construction has passed by your property, you could still benefit from Kanokla’s fiber connectivity by requesting the final “drop” or underground connection from our mainline to your home. By committing to a 1-year service agreement, we can optimize resource allocation and provide efficient service to customers who select Kanokla as their broadband provider. We are proud to offer this fiber drop construction at no cost to customers who sign the service agreement in our Phase 1 and 2 areas.
