UPDATED: Kansas City Kans. woman dies in turnpike accident; Wellington man involved
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Urmila Sharma , a 25-year-old female, of Kansas City, Kansas was killed on the Kansas Turnpike earlier today, two miles north of the Wellington exit at the milepost marker 21.2.
The crash occurred shortly before noon.
According to the KTA accident report, the turnpike maintenance crew was painting the roadway for northbound traffic when Sharma’s 2011 Scion 5D struck the rear of a 2007 International 7400, driven by David Bowman of Wellington. The report said Bowman had possible injuries but did not specify what those were or his condition.
According to KAKE.com, Rachel Bell with the KTA said a six-vehicle paint striping crew was traveling north, just north of the Wellington interchange. The striping vehicle was in the passing lane, with five other vehicles behind to alert oncoming traffic.Â
Bell said, the group was approached by a vehicle traveling at highway speed. The SUV moved around the first truck, before reportedly veering back into the passing lane and crashing into the back of the second vehicle in line.
