Latest Sumner County COVID-19 update: Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022
by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Sumner County saw nearly twice the spike of new coronavirus cases during the latest nine-day period. The time period was expanded for two days because of the Martin Luther King Day holiday.
The average case count is a new record. On Jan. 10, the cases were at a 32.87 per day average, jumping this week to 62.77 cases per day. Between Jan. 10 and Jan. 19, there were 565 new cases according to statistics gathered by the Kansas State Department of Health and Environment. This makes it the most prolific spread of the virus in Sumner County history.
There was also one more COVID-19 related death in Sumner County, making for 64 death cases.
If misery loves company, Sumner County has plenty. The county dropped from 85th to 64th as the highest risk county in the state of Kansas.
