by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — When you’re in your 90s, getting out of bed can be an ordeal. But in Lawrence Norris case, getting hit by a car makes for an interesting afternoon.

According to a Wellington police report, Norris, 97, of Wellington was walking in the Wellington Pizza Hut parking lot at the 900 block of North G Street on Thursday at 12:15 p.m. WPD officer Troy Wylie, who was working the accident, said Brian Goodrum, 33, of Wellington was backing up in the parking lot in his vehicle and failed to see Norris who was walking behind his vehicle and was obstructed from his view.

He hit Norris with the vehicle. Norris reportedly was sent to Sumner Regional Medical Center and was treated and release. According to sources, he broke his leg. He is currently at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kans.

Wylie said no charges will be filed on the accident.
