Letter to the editor: Passing on the Project Prom

Sumner Newscow report — The following letter to the editor is written by Maria Cornejo of Wellington:

Dear editor:

Wellington Project Prom is in transition and needs to pass the torch to the next set of high school parents.  Due to attrition, our board needs to replace several members as soon as possible.

Project Prom is a parent-run organization designed to provide a drug and alcohol-free event full of positive activities for students after prom to encourage safe, peer pressure free choices.

Over this 34 year tradition, 100% of fundraising has been used to purchase incentives and supplies to promote safe prom night celebrations.  Wellington has always given great financial support. What’s missing are the volunteers to plan and execute.

If this fine program has run its course and doesn’t have volunteer support, we will plan for 2021 to be last year to host this event for the students.

If you are interested in keeping this great tradition in place please contact our board through email at wellingtonprojectprom@gmail.com or find us on Facebook. Now is the time to volunteer if you’ve been interested in joining!
