Loretta Mae (Bliss) Newland, 87, Wellington: June 27, 1937 – Nov. 12, 2024

Loretta Newland

Loretta Mae (Bliss) Newland, a loving and humble woman, departed this earth on November 12, 2024. Born in Wellington on June 27, 1937, to Kenneth and Dorothodean Bliss, she grew up on the family farm in Oxford with her three siblings. She was united in marriage to Bill Newland on May 12, 1961, and celebrated 44 years together before his passing in 2005. Loretta stayed home with the children while they were young and went back to work as a toll collector for the Kansas Turnpike for over 20 years until her retirement. Her heart was always full when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She shared her love of gardening, baking, Elvis music, and cheering on the Jayhawks with many friends and family.

Loretta is survived by her loving children, daughter Jennifer Newland, and son Aron Newland and his wife Michelle. Her joy was multiplied by her four grandchildren, Adelyn, Nora, Archer, and Fletcher Newland, who brought light and laughter to her life. Her sister Judy Meridith and her husband Bill, as well as her sister-in-law Beth Bliss, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Newland, her parents Kenneth and Dorothodean Bliss, her brother Gary Bliss, and her sister Beverly Conover.

A service to celebrate Loretta’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Cornejo Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, Kansas, 67152.
