Sumner Newscow report — Luke Wylie finished up his outstanding high school cross country career by becoming a two time state medalist at the Class 4A State Cross Country meet in Wamego on a rainy Saturday morning.
He was one of two Wellington runners this weekend. Madi Fullerton also ran. South Haven girls also had four runners at state in the Class 1A state cross country meet in Wamego.
Wylie finished 18th with a time of 17:12.97 in the 5K (3.2 miles).
Wellington cross country coach Jaedynn Showman said of Wylie:
“His hard work and determination will be missed by our XC program.”
Fullerton also became a two-time state qualifier! She finished a great season with a 64th place finish and a time of 22:49.17.
“We look forward to having her back next fall,” Showman said. “She is onto wrestling and is a returning state qualifier for that program as well.”
