Lyric Cornejo crowned the Duchess of Wellington for 2023
By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Lyric Cornejo was crowned the 2023 Duchess of Wellington.
Cornejo is the daughter of Airly and Jesse Cornejo.
She was crowned Friday night at halftime of the Wellington-El Dorado football game during the 2023 WHS Homecoming festivities. Other candidates included: Kate Haines, Olivia Smith, Sheadyn Stewart, and Blaire Vazquez. Addison Jenkins and Denver Ault.
Cornejo is also the granddaughter of Amy and Allan Roths, Tim Martin and the late Paulay Ramsey, and Terri Cornejo and Marty Cornejo.
Lyric has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years, SCCDAT for two years , and pep club for two years. She has also participated in tennis for four years, basketball for two years and has been a boys’ tennis manager for three years. She was on the principal’s honor roll.
Cornejo has received all-league honorable mentions for tennis in 2021 and 2022. She has also placed fourth at state tennis in 2021, and fifth in 2022.
Outside of school, she is also a member of the Wellington Catholic Chiurch. After high school, she plans to attend cosmetology school and become licensed to do hair. She was escorted by Gavin Witham.
