Marie Elena Ramirez, 98, Wellington: Aug. 10, 1925 – Sept. 24, 2023
Maria Elena Ramirez left this world on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the age of 98. She was born on August 10, 1925, in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico to Otillo Lopez and Maria Sierra Sandoval. On November 20, 1947 Maria met Joe E. Ramirez in Mexico City, Mexico. Soon after, she immigrated to America. On May 17, 1957 Joe and Maria were united in marriage in Tulsa, Okla. Maria proudly became a U.S. citizen in 2001. Together, Maria and Joe, would share 48 years of marriage before Joe’s passing in 2005.
She and Joe resided in Wellington, where she built a nurturing home filled with love and acceptance. Maria was not only an inspiring figure to her family, but her compassion touched everyone. Her home was always open, — she had an uncanny ability to bring everyone together, making neighbors feel like family and friends feel at home. Maria also had an unwavering and strong faith that transcended denominational boundaries. As a homemaker, Maria was a gifted cook and found joy tending to her beloved garden.
Maria is survived by her daughter, Alicia Bustraan and her husband Neil; son, Marco Antonio Ramirez of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Thalia Ortega and her husband Salvador of Greeley, Colorado; Renee Gibbs of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren: Alexander Ortega, Joshua Ramirez, Christina Ramirez, Tori Ortega, Diego Ortega; 7 great-grandchildren; and a great- great grandson that was born on September 21, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Joe E. Ramirez; daughter, Patricia Kathleen Ramirez Duty; and grandbaby, Elizabeth Elena.
A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 to 7p.m., Monday, October 2, 2023 with the family present at 5 p.m. to receive friends.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at St. Anthony St. Rose Catholic Church, 210 North B Street, Wellington, Kansas.
Funeral Mass for Maria will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens, Wellington, Kansas.
